Vegan Green Falafel

Vegan Green Falafel is a healthy, nutritious, and creative twist on the classic falafel. This is the vibrant mixture of the best and green vegetables and is the best plant-based option for vegans or vegetarians. It is a combo of spinach, parsley, herbs, etc. Chickpeas are the base ingredients as the base. This recipe has a moist texture from and inside and from the outside they are quite crispy. You can serve them as an appetizer.

INGREDIENTS NOTES

Here are the ingredients that you’ll need to make this recipe;

Avocado oil: ( olive oil or any other neutral oil) will be used for frying.

Baking powder: It will make the falafel soft from the inside.

Chickpea flour/rice four: It holds the outer side of the falafel. So it will avoid breaking them while frying.

Lemon juice: For the richness of taste.

Serrano peppers: It provide a hot and spicy taste to the recipe. If you want less spicy simply remove its seeds from inside and then use or you can also skip.

Fresh Herbs: They will also help in making the falafel bright green with lots of nutrients and then good for health.

Dried Chickpeas: Simply soak the chickpeas overnight and then use them.

Ingredients:

  • Avocado oil: for frying
  • 3/4 tbsp. baking soda
  • 3 tbsp. chickpea flour
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tbsp. ground cardamom
  • 1 1/2 tsps. kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp. cumin
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 serrano pepper
  • 1/2 cup mint
  • 11/2 cup parsley
  • 1 1/2 cup cilantro
  • Dried chickpeas 11/2 cups

 

Instructions:

  1. Add the dried chickpeas in the bowl and then fill the bowl with water and then soak it overnight by covering it with a kitchen towel.
  2. Now remove the water from the chickpeas and then add them to the food chopper and then chop them.
  3. Then, add the herbs, cumin, garlic, cardamon, salt, lemon juice, and pepper to the same food processor.
  4. Process them at high speed till they mix well.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a large bowl and then add the flour to it and then mix well to combine.
  6. Put the bowl into the fridge and then rest it for half an hour to make the mixture firm.
  7. Add the baking powder to the mixture and then incorporate them.
  8. Make the balls from the mixture equally.
  9. If you notice any liquidy texture in the mixture you can add more flour to it.
  10. Use a wok and then heat it over a medium flame and then add the oil to shallow fry the balls.
  11. After heating the oil carefully add each ball to it and then fry for three minutes on each side.
  12. Fry until they become golden from the outside.
  13. Remove them from a serving plate with the paper towel on the bottom.
  14. Sprinkle the salt over it if you want a little bit salty.

FOR AIR FRYING

  1. Heat your air fryer to 370 degrees C.
  2. Spray the basket with the oil and then put the falafel balls in it.
  3. Then, spray the balls from the top as well.
  4. Bake them for 30 minutes and spray more oil if needed.

FOR BAKING:

  1. Heat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Grease a pan with the oil and then place the balls over it.
  3. Spray them from the top also and then bake for 20 or 30 minutes.
  4. Make the balls into the patty shape as they will bake well.

Serving Ideas:

This can be served with tabbouleh, salads, hummus, and dipping sauce.

Notes:

  1. This mixture will make approximately 20 balls.
  2. You can use rice flour if the chickpea flour is not available.
  3. To make the mixture firm try to use the properly washed and dried herb in it.
  4. You can also keep the blend in the fridge for 1 day.
  5. It will make 5 servings.

Storage:

You can freeze them uncooked because uncooked will become soft after reheating.

With this process, you can keep them for 2 months.
