Vegan Lentil Salisbury Steak

Vegan Lentil Salisbury Steak

Equipment

Ingredients

  • Lentil Salisbury Steak
  • Vital White Gluten 1cup
  • Bread Crumbs 1cup
  • Uncooked Brown Lentils 2 cups
  • Vegetable Broth 1/2cup
  • Soy Sauce 1/2cup
  • Liquid Smoke 1tbsp
  • Vegan Oil 1tsp
  • Salt 1/2tsp, or add according to taste
  • Black pepper 1/4tsp

Mushroom gravy Sauce

  • Sliced Edible Mushrooms 8oz
  • Vegetable Broth 2cups
  • Olive Oil 2tsp
  • Chopped Garlic Cloves 3
  • Vegan Butter 3tbsp
  • All Purpose Flour 3tbsp
  • Dried Sage 1/2tsp
  • Thyme 1/2tsp
  • Salt 1/4tsp, or to taste
  • Black Pepper, add according to taste

Instructions

  • Preparation of Lentil Salisbury Steak
  1. First, we will heat the oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Wrap the bottom of the baking tray with parchment paper. Set aside this tray.
  3. Next, cook the lentils. Wash the lentils with clean water.
  4. Add rinsed lentils to a pressure cooker. Cook it to a high pressure for 5-10 minutes.
  5. After 10 minutes, check the lentils. If it is cooked, set aside it. Otherwise, cook it for another 5 minutes.
  6. When lentils are cooked, set aside for 3-4 minutes.
  7. Add cooked lentils to a food processor. Blend it until it’s mashed well.
  8. Next, mix the mashed cooked lentils with the breadcrumbs, liquid smoke, salt, soy sauce, wheat gluten, and black pepper in a bowl.
  9. Combine all ingredients until all spices mix well with the lentil.
  10. After that, add vegetable broth to this mixture.
  11. Blend thoroughly until a smooth consistency is achieved.
  12. Take the mixture by using a spoon and convert it into a patties shape.
  13. Make 10-12 patties of this mixture.
  14. Shift these lentil patties to the baking tray in sequence.
  15. Lightly coat the top of the patties with the olive oil.
  16. Bake the patties for 15-20 minutes until it’s light brown.
  17. Meanwhile, the steaks are baked, and we will prepare the mushroom gravy.
  • Preparation of Mushroom gravy
  1. Heat the nonstick pan over a medium flame. Add vegan oil to this pan and heat it for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add chopped garlic and sliced mushrooms to this oil.
  3. Sautee it for 6-7 minutes until it’s brown and tender.
  4. Sprinkle over salt and black pepper. Mix it and shift the mushrooms on a plate.
  5. Add vegan butter to this same pan. Melt it for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Next, add all-purpose flour to this melted butter. Stir it well.
  7. Add vegetable broth and continuously stir it so no lumps are made.
  8. After that, add dried sage, thyme, black pepper, and salt.
  9. Mix all ingredients. Cook it for 8-14 minutes, or until the gravy texture is thickened.
  10. The thick and creamy mushroom gravy is ready.
  • Serving
  1. Serve the lentil steaks with this mushroom gravy.
  2. You can also pour the mushroom gravy over the steak.

Storage Information

We will store the lentil steak and mushroom gravy in different boxes so the flavors of both dishes will not merge.
Refrigerate: Tightly pack the mushroom gravy and lentil steak into a container. Shift these containers into a refrigerator for 4-5 days.
Freezer: Lentil patties are freezer friendly. Freeze the lentil patties for 3-4 months. Store the mushroom gravy in the freezer for 1-2 months. The flavor of the gravy will be slightly changed.
Reheating: You can reheat the frozen patties in a microwave oven, or refry them to a pan over slow to medium flame.
