Vegan Refried Beans

Vegan Refried Beans

Ingredients

  • Olive Oil 2 tbsp
  • Onion 1
  • Chopped Garlic Cloves 3
  • Cayenne Pepper 1/4tsp
  • Red Pepper Flakes 1/8 tsp
  • Ground cumin, 1/2 tsp
  • Dried Oregano 1tsp
  • Pinto Beans, 2 cans
  • Water 1/2cup
  • Lime juice, 1tbsp
  • Salt 1/2tsp

Instructions

  1. Place the nonstick pan on a stovetop.
  2. Turn on the flame, and heat this pan over a medium flame.
  3. Next, add olive oil and chopped onions to this pan.
  4. Cook it for 4-5 minutes until the onions are golden brown.
  5. Add red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, chopped garlic, oregano, and cumin with onions.
  6. Simmer it with onions for 2 to 3 minutes until all spices mix well.
  7. After that, add pinto beans with water.
  8. Close the pan and cook it for 5–10 minutes.
  9. Switch off the burner once the beans are done.
  10. Mash the beans with a masher until they have a smooth texture.
  11. Mix it well, and simmer it for an extra 4-5 minutes.
  12. The refried beans are prepared.
  13. Add cilantro, fresh lime juice, and salt over the beans depending on your preference.

Alternatives

You can change the dish’s recipe to your choice.

  1. Beans: used cooked or store-bought canned beans. If you want to use uncooked beans, boil water, add raw beans, and cook it for 15-20 minutes. The remaining cooking procedure will be the same.
  2. Oil-free: You can cook the chopped onions, garlic, and other spices in boiled water.
  3. Spicy: To give a spicy taste, you can use diced jalapenos, sriracha, or cayenne pepper.
  4. Water: vegetable broth is a good option. Broth can be added in place of the water. It gives more flavor to the dish.
