VARIATIONS:
Gluten-free Irish Stew:
- To make a gluten-free Irish stew, simply substitute the beer with your favorite gluten-free beer, vegetable broth, or red wine.
Irish Stew without beer:
- As the stew simmers, the alcohol will evaporate, but if you wish to ready it without alcohol, you can use non-alcoholic beer or more vegetable broth in its place.
Veggies:
- I suggest selecting strong root veggies that maintain their original form, but you can add extra vegetables to the stew. Turnips, parsnips, and rainbow carrots are all excellent choices.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
- You can serve the savory and hot soup with crusty bread or over-mashed potatoes.
- Pair this soup with mixed greens salad for a refreshing flavor.
- Enjoy it with brown or white rice for a hearty and satisfying supper.
TIPS:
Variety of mushrooms:
- Use a combination of mushrooms such as Portobello, cremini, shiitake, and white button mushrooms.
Avoid overcooking:
- Don’t overcook the veggies. Lightly saute the veggies to maintain their crisp.
Vegetable broth:
- Use good quality vegetable broth because it is the main foundation of the Irish Stew.
Cook Slowly:
- Simmer the stew over a low flame to develop the flavors.
Cooking Method:
- Instead of a stovetop, you can simmer this soup in a slow cooker for four to six hours.
Topping:
- Before serving, stir in some freshly crushed thyme and parsley.
STORAGE INFORMATION:
Fridge:
- You can save the leftover soup in an airtight vessel and refrigerate it for 5 to 6 days.
Freeze:
- To freeze, we will cool the soup at a normal place, then add this soup to a closed jar and freeze it for two to three months.
Reheating:
- We can rewarm the soup (chilled) in a deep nonstick pot or microwave oven for 7 to 9 minutes.
FAQs:
What can I use instead of Guinness stout?
- You can use another vegan-friendly beer, vegetable broth, and low-sodium soy sauce.
Which kind of potatoes are excellent for Vegan Irish Stew?
- Russet or Idaho potatoes are heavy in starch. These will break down and give the stew more thickness. Another option is to mix high-starch and glossy potatoes, such as Yukon gold or red potatoes
