Ingredients

  • Corn flour, 1/2 cup
  • All-purpose flour, 1/4 cup
  • Unsweetened non-dairy milk, 500 ml
  • Cocoa powder 25g
  • Granulated sugar 80g
  • Vanilla extract, 1tsp
  • Vegan butter 50g
  • Chopped Dark Chocolate 125g
  • Pinch of salt

Ingredient Notes:

Unsweetened Non-dairy Milk: You may add plant-based milk like hemp, almond, soy, or coconut milk.
Cornstarch: It is used to thicken the consistency of pastry.
Sugar: Add granulated, brown, and white sugar to your flavor.
Chocolate: I used dark chocolate. You may use white chocolate depending on your food choice.
Salt: We used salt to maintain the cream flavor.
Vanilla Extract: It is used to add flavor. You can use your favorite flavors.

Instructions

  1. Take a large skillet. Then, add vegan butter to this skillet. Melt it over medium flame.
  2. Now, add corn flour and then stir it continuously for a minute.
  3. Add the unsweetened non-dairy milk, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract to the corn flour.
  4. Mix all ingredients.
  5. Over medium heat, cook it for 5-10 minutes until the consistency thickens.
  6. After that, add dry ingredients such as salt, sugar, and cornstarch in a separate mixing bowl.
  7. Add the unsweetened milk mixture to this dry mixture.
  8. Continuously Stir milk into this mixture to make it lump-free.
  9. Now cook this batter for 2-3 minutes, until it thickens.
  10. Extinguish the flame. Remove the pan, and keep it on the side.
  11. Whisk the chopped dark chocolate and butter in a mixing bowl.
  12. Add the layers by using a cooking spoon.
  13. After that, add the first layer of cornstarch and milk layer; next, add the dark chocolate layer and the final layer of topping.
  14. Equally, divide the mixture into this bowl.
  15. Transfer this bowl to the refrigerator for two to three hours.
  16. Serve it with chocolate chips, colorful sprinkles, and waffles. Enjoy this.

Variations

You can alternate the recipe to your choice. Substitute the dark chocolate with many ingredients listed below:
Mocha Pastry Cream: Add instant coffee to the milk. Whisk it until the coffee is dissolved. After that, prepare the pastry cream recipe instructions (listed below).
Jaffa Pastry Cream: To give a tangy flavor, add orange extract.
Cinnamon Pastry Cream: Take the crushed cinnamon. Mix it into milk. It gives a refreshing cinnamon flavor.

Storage Information
