TOFU:
- We make use of either thick slices or a block of tofu for this recipe, which looks very nice from the outside, and it stays soft on the inside. You can also make use of chickpea tofu slices for an alternative.
VEGAN BUTTER:
- Vegan butter is a useful ingredient in providing a rich taste to the dish. Olive oil is a substitute option.
GARLIC:
- It not only gives the dish a strong scent but also provides a deep taste of tofu. Either garlic paste or powder is an option for an alternative.
SOY SAUCE:
- Soy sauce gives us an umami flavor in the tofu dish. Coconut aminos is an alternative option.
LEMON JUICE:
- Lemon juice is helpful in balancing out the rich flavor that vegan butter gives. Utilize apple cider vinegar as a substitute option.
CORNSTARCH:
- Cornstarch is useful in making the outside of the tofu a bit crisp. Rice flour is an option to use as a substitute.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First of all, pat the tofu to make it dry, since dry tofu is what makes it golden.
- You can either slice it into two thick pieces or make use of the whole tofu.
- Then apply some amount of cornstarch on top.
- Over medium flame, heat the pan with some olive oil in it.
- Put the tofu inside the pan.
- From each side of the tofu, cook for three to four minutes till you make it is golden.
- Now, include vegan butter around the tofu so that it melts.
- After including the garlic in the pan, cook for one minute.
- Then add lemon juice, pepper, salt, and soy sauce.
- Start pouring the sauce that is inside the pan over the tofu till you cover it entirely.
- Make the flame low and then let it simmer.
- Simmer for about 2-3 minutes for flavor absorption.
- Take the tofu out of the pan.
- Then pour the sauce above the tofu from the pan.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
- You can just enjoy the tofu as it is for a meal.
- Pairing this tofu with either pasta or mashed potatoes is a great choice.
- To make this even healthier, you can include spinach or broccoli.
TIPS:
- For the tofu to become brown in color, make sure you are pressing the tofu properly beforehand.
- Since the garlic can become bitter quickly, try not to burn it up.
- Adding chili flakes is a great option for those who like spiciness.
- To add a bright flavor to your tofu dish, you can include an extra amount of lemon juice.
STORAGE INFORMATION:
FRIDGE:
- For about three days, you can store the tofu inside a tight box.
FREEZER:
- If it is necessary to freeze the tofu, you can only freeze it for one month, but since the texture of the whole tofu will change upon freezing, try to avoid it.
FAQs:
Will it be fine to bake this tofu?
- You can consider baking it as well, bake at 200°C for about twenty to twenty-five minutes. After baking, you can spread the sauce over the tofu.
How to prepare the tofu without the use of oil?
- Make it without oil if you desire to, but the tofu will not brown as brown as with the use of oil.
For this recipe, can I make use of soft tofu?
- Soft tofu is not a good option for this recipe because it will break very easily; that is why we use firm tofu.
