Ingredients Notes

Pears: I used ripe and firm (not hard).
Dry red wine: Prepare this dish with a low-cost wine. Experiment with wine options like Merlot, Gamay, Shiraz, or Beaujolais. Check the instruction notes on the wine bottles before purchasing.
Orange Juice: We may use fresh squeezed orange juice.
Organic cane sugar: It’s a vegan item. You can replace it with maple syrup, granulated brown sugar, and white sugar.
Cloves: Whole cloves work better than ground ones.
Cinnamon Sticks: I use a two-inch cinnamon stick. But it’s not necessary.
Star Anise: It is used to add spicy flavor.
Vanilla Pot: Chop it into two halves to extract its seeds.

Instructions

  1. Shift the saucepan to the stovetop and set its heat to low flame.
  2. Next, add chopped vanilla bean, cardamom pods, star anise, cinnamon stick, organic cane sugar, orange zest, water, cloves, red wine, and orange juice into the saucepan.
  3. Combine all items with the help of a wooden spoon.
  4. Simmer it over a slow flame for 4-6 minutes or until it gently boils.
  5. Meanwhile, rinse the pear with clean water.
  6. Shift these pears into this saucepan.
  7. Next, cook it on slow heat for 25 to 30 minutes after covering it with the saucepan lid.
  8. Gently flip pears after 6/7 minutes by using a slotted spoon.
  9. After 7 minutes, insert a wooden stick or a knife into the pears and check their thickness.
  10. Next, remove the pears from the saucepan and set aside.
  11. Cool it for 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, simmer the red wine syrup for a couple of minutes.
  12. Now, take a serving dish. Place the chilled pears on this plate.
  13. Drizzle over the warm red wine syrup. Top it with orange zest.
  14. You can also serve the red hot wine syrup separately with pears.

Variations

Red Wine: I have made this recipe with Pinot Noir. Try this dish with Brandy, Whisky, Bourbon, Grand Marnier, or Gewurztraminer red wines. All these wines are branded and costly. They give a unique aroma to a dish.
Orange Juice: Replace the orange juice with grape, pomegranate, cranberry juice, or apple cider. The taste of all juices will be different.
Organic sugar cane: I used a vegan-friendly sweetener. Alternatively, use agave nectar or coconut sugar.

Ideas of Serving

There are methods to present the porched pears in red wine (mentioned below).
Simple Presentation: Shift the prepared pears to a beautiful plain serving plate. Pour over a small amount of poaching syrup. Serve.
Fancy Decoration: We will add the poaching syrup to the base of the plate. Put the pears in the center of the serving plate. Pour over a spoonful of vegan ice cream or vegan coconut cream to add a sweet and chill flavor. Sprinkle over a little quantity of ground cinnamon. Next, we will add orange zest to the dish to give it a tangy flavor and vibrant vibe.

Tips

Avoid using overripe pears; otherwise, they will turn into a mushy texture during cooking.
Gently change each side of the pear so it cooks properly.
Use only fresh juice instead of packed juices.
Try this recipe with different whole or ground spices to elevate the unique flavors.
It is best to serve porched pears after one day. All spices and red wine are absorbed into pears.
Choose vegan-friendly fruity-flavored and less-priced red wines.

Storage Information

Fridge: Wrap the remaining pieces of pears in a closed glass jar and refrigerate them for 4-5 days. We will not pack the pears in plastic sheets to prevent them from being smashed.
Freezer: You can’t freeze this dish in the freezer.
Rewarming: We can reheat the refrigerated chilled pears in a microwave oven for 2/3 minutes.

You can drizzle it over the vegan vanilla ice cream or blend it into a vinaigrette.

I used Pinot Noir to make this recipe. You can choose any vegan-friendly and low-priced red wine.
